Why You Should Recycle Content

Have you ever suffered from a creative block, like I talk about in this article? Because if so, you’ve experienced one of the many side effects that can come from not recycling your content! Other consequences can include…

• A lack of growth because of an inability to keep up with posting content on multiple platforms
• Burnout, due to your business requiring more effort to maintain
• And even a sense of overwhelm in the long run, as you struggle to come up with enough to content to spread around various profiles

Obviously you want to avoid these negative effects, so let’s discuss the simple hack that will allow you to do so!

How To Repurpose Content

Recycling content is actually quite easy to do, especially once you get used to it. But the process will vary a bit, depending on what type of content we’re talking about. For instance…

• If you’re creating long form videos for YouTube, then you could cut down those videos into smaller clips and use them to create TikToks, Instagram reels, and YouTube shorts.
• On the other hand, if you’re working with an article that you’ve written, then you could consider taking select snippets from it and using them as “sneak peeks” on your socials.
• But on the flip side, if you’re starting with a short piece of content… then you could take inspiration from it later down the line and expand on it to create a larger piece of content. Or even creating a “part two, three, etc” to a popular piece that you’ve released in the past.

As you can see by the last example I gave, “repurposing” content doesn’t always have to be cutting something down to fit a smaller format. (Although that is a popular method!) It can also come in the form of finding inspiration from your old content, when you’re going through a creative block.

How To Maximize Content From The Beginning

Now, if you’ve already built up a backlog of content and you’ve never recycled anything then… congrats! You’ve honestly just unlocked a gold mine, and you’ll have lots of “free” content to use in the future.

But you don’t have to wait to recycle content until it’s “old”. In fact, you can plan to repurpose content from the very beginning of the process and save yourself a lot of trouble in the long run.

So Bossables, your new challenge is to go create a brand new piece of content with repurposing in mind. I want you to think up every possible way that you can use this content across all your platforms.

Could you write an article and then turn it into a video script for your YouTube channel? Could you make a podcast episode into a small series of TikToks by creating some graphics and using the audio as a voiceover? Get creative with it, and you’ll start creating more content than you ever dreamed of before.
