Issue 6 – 👩‍🦰 A Guide To How (And When) You Should Hire Employees 👩‍🦰

In today’s issue…

I’ll be covering everything you need to know about hiring employees, such as when you need to take this step and how you should do it! So we’ll be talking about…

  • Signs that you should start hiring employees
  • How to prepare for the hiring process
  • And how to find the perfect additions to your team!

The Pitfalls Of Not Forming A Team

As a young business owner, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to identify when it’s time to bring on employees. But if you put off the task for too long, it can actually lead to stunted growth within your business. So it’s crucial to know when (and how) you should start building a team!

Otherwise you could experience…

  • Overwhelm that comes from being a CEO who’s trying to juggle it all
  • Less opportunities for growth
  • And even a lack of sales, if certain areas of your business are being neglected!

Signs You Should Start Looking For Employees

As I said, it’s important that you know when to start hiring a team. Because it likely won’t be right away! Which is exactly why the hiring process is listed in the second half of the business plan I share in this recent blog post.

So what are the signs you should be looking for? I’m glad you asked! They are as follows…

  • Saying “no” to clients. Because if you’ve gotten to the point where you have no choice but to turn down business… you’re losing money by not hiring help!
  • Feeling overwhelmed and overworked.
  • And finding that customer satisfaction is going downhill. Since this can sometimes mean that you simply couldn’t keep up with everything they needed, while balancing everything else that needs doing within the business.

How To Prep For Hiring Employees

If you do notice any of the signs I listed above, the first step in fixing the problem is actually figuring out what you need from future employees! That’s right… there’s a bit of prep work I want you to do before you just go out and hire random people to complete random tasks for you.

Specifically, I want you to evaluate which tasks you want to assign to them. And you can do so by asking yourself questions like…

  • “Which tasks do I enjoy doing, and which ones are less interesting to me?”
  • “Which tasks are taking up the majority of my time?”
  • And… “Which areas of my business need to grow right now?”

Then, once you’ve found the answers, use them to create a detailed job description for the future employees you want to have. As this will ultimately help you stay more organized, and find the people you want to hire!

For instance, if you love creating educational content but you don’t like the marketing aspect of running a business… you’d want a social media manager, not a content creator.

Or, if you enjoy the admin side of the business, you’d want to hire someone who can take control of the more creative areas of the company.

How To Find Your Dream Team!

Finally, now it’s time for you to form your dream team by tracking down the perfect employees for your business. There are many ways you can go about this, but here are a few ideas…

  • You can search for new hires via social media, by checking out the profiles of people who are passionate about the areas of business you want help with.
  • You can get referrals from other people in your niche
  • You can create a special page on your website for employee applications, just in case someone who’s visiting your site thinks they may be interested in working for you
  • And you can search through freelancing websites like Fiverr and Upwork for temporary hires that you could bring on long term later on. As this will allow you to test out how you work together before officially hiring them!

Regardless of which strategy you choose though, you just need to keep your original hiring goals in mind. And ideally, you want to choose someone who seems passionate about what you’re hiring them for. Either because they agree with your business’s mission statement, or because they have a lot of pride in what they specialize in.
