Issue 3 – 🦾 A Guide To Identifying Your Strengths As A Coach 🦾

In today’s issue…

We’re going to be finding out what your unique strengths are when it comes to coaching! And we’ll do it by covering…

  • Why this is important
  • Questions you can ask yourself to uncover your strengths
  • Ways to achieve an unbiased view of yourself as a coach
  • And ultimately… how this knowledge might help you grow your business!

The Importance Of Finding Your Strengths

As a coach, you need to have a certain level of confidence in yourself in order to succeed. And this is because, if you’re not confident in yourself, then you might start to feel like a fraud when you try to help others. Which is quite literally the foundation of your business!

But the truth is, it can be hard to stay confident. Therefore, it’s important to know the signs of insecurity so that you can combat them when they start to pop up. For instance, if you struggle with your confidence as a coach then you may experience…

  • Imposter syndrome when you’re creating educational content
  • Anxiety that your audience will figure out you don’t actually know what you’re talking about (even though you do)
  • Overwhelm when you’re trying to run your business
  • And even a lack of direction with the things you create

And this can all be solved by taking one simple step… taking the time to identify your strengths and use this knowledge to your advantage.

How To Identify (And Use) Your Coaching Strengths

So, now that we know how vital it is that you become acquainted with your own strengths, let’s talk about how you can actually go about doing it.

Step One – Achieve An Unbiased View

First of all, you’re going to need to achieve an unbiased view of yourself. At least… while you’re doing this exercise! Because if not, you could misidentify your strengths and end up undermining the whole process. But the good news is, it’s easier to do than you might think! And you can use any of these strategies to help…

  • Disconnect from yourself while you’re doing the exercise, and try to imagine what you would think of yourself if you were someone else.
  • Take the time to question and challenge each belief that pops up about yourself. So if you identify a strength or weakness during this process, don’t just automatically accept it as fact. Ask yourself why you think that, if there’s been proof that the thought is true, etc…
  • Try to stay neutral. You don’t want to go into this process with too much of an ego, but you don’t want to be too hard on yourself either. So try to stay neutral and just look at the facts. That way, your current feelings about yourself won’t sway the process one way or another.
  • And if all else fails, ask for help! As I said in the very first tip, if you really want to be accurate with finding your strengths then you need to look at yourself as another person. But if you can’t do that, find someone else to help you with this process. Preferably someone who’s supportive, but is willing to tell you the truth at the same time. So you know you can trust their opinions about your strengths!

Step Two – Ask Yourself The Following Questions

Now with this unbiased view, ask yourself the following questions…

  • “What am I the most passionate about when it comes to business?” (Oftentimes our passions can reveal our talents and strengths.)
  • “At what times do I feel the most comfortable when running my company?” (If we’re good at a task, we’re more likely enjoy it or feel safe. Whereas if we’re weaker in a certain area, completing that task can fill us with anxiety.)
  • “What aspects of my coaching do people compliment the most?” (This can be a huge giveaway as to what your natural talents are.)
  • “Which area my of own life do I feel most confident in?” (These areas might not even directly correlate to your coaching business, but I bet you can find a link if you look for it.)
  • And finally….. “What are my strengths as a coach?” (All the questions before this should start to give an idea of how to answer this question!)

Bottom Line – Use Your Strengths To Your Advantage

Once you’ve found what your strengths are, I think you’ll be surprised at helpful the information can be…

You can use it to give your business direction, by creating content/products/services that revolves around your area of expertise. You can make more efficient decisions when it comes to outsourcing, because you know which areas of the business you have handled versus which areas you need help with. And you can remind yourself of your strengths often in order to become more confident and therefore… a better CEO in the long run!

And it can even help you figure out which coaching model is right for you, as I discuss in this article on the topic.
