Issue 4 -🧠 How To Avoid Overwhelm To Boost Your Productivity 🧠


In today’s issue…

I’m going to be talking about one way that you can really manage your mental health as a business owner, and become more productive as a result. Aka, I’m going to be teaching you how to avoid overwhelm! As this is one of the main reasons you can start to procrastinate with your business.

So we’ll be discussing…

  • Why overwhelm is so detrimental
  • Signs that you’re feeling overwhelmed
  • And how to avoid/manage overwhelm as a CEO

Signs Of Overwhelm

First of all, let’s talk about some of the common symptoms of overwhelm. Because I guarantee they’re probably things you’ve experienced before!

Overwhelm can cause…

  • A lack of concentration
  • Low energy
  • An inability to make decisions
  • Forgetfulness
  • And even panic attacks!

As you can see, all of those things are going to affect your productivity levels in one way or another. Usually by causing you to procrastinate. (If you’d like more information about beating procrastination in particular, check out this article I just released on the topic.)

But all of this is exactly why overwhelm is one of the main enemies of productivity, and in order to master the latter… you have to get rid of the former.

So let’s chat about how to do that…

How To Manage Overwhelm

There are three main things you need to learn in order to get rid of overwhelm… how to find the root cause of it, how to get that root cause under control, and how to use coping mechanisms to your advantage.

Find The Root Cause

The one good thing about overwhelm is that it’s usually pretty easy to find the root cause of it! And you can use this information to your advantage, because if you eliminate the root cause then the symptoms of overwhelm will disappear soon after.

So step one of removing overwhelm is to take note of when you feel it the most! Is it when you enter your kitchen to get a snack on your lunch break? Is it when you first sit down at your desk to begin the work day? Or is it when you try to plan your tasks for the next week?

Once you’re able to identify the moments in which you start feeling overwhelmed, you can easily find the cause. For instance… If you noticed that you feel overwhelmed during your lunch break when you go to the kitchen, it might be because your kitchen is too messy. Or you don’t have any meals prepped and ready to go! But if your overwhelm pops up when you’re planning tasks for the week then it could be because you need practice breaking larger goals into smaller steps.

Get The Root Issue Under Control

Obviously, after you’re able to figure out what’s causing the overwhelm, you’ll need to set out to fix it!

So following along with the same example from earlier, let’s say you found that the problem with your lunchtime overwhelm is a lack of prepped food. in that case, you could start meal prepping every Sunday and have enough lunches for the rest of the work week!

Or, if you think the problem has to do with the messiness of a room, then you’ll need to go on a cleaning mission and organize things as best you can.

These things might seem small, but trust me, you’ll be surprised at how effective small steps in the right direction can be in your battle with overwhelm.

Learn Coping Mechanisms

Finally, there are a few coping mechanisms that are known to reduce overwhelm as well. Including…

  • Meditation
  • Grounding
  • Exercise
  • Deep breathing
  • And being more mindful!

These techniques take time to master of course, but the more often you practice them, the better you’ll get!
